Prepper Outfitters LLC is a Limited Liability Company based out of Hopkins, Minnesota. Dedicated to providing high quality survival and preparedness products at highly competitive prices.

What is "Prepping"?

"Prepping" is a new term for what has been called "Survivalism" and "Homesteading" in the past. Most people that call themselves "preppers" have identified risks from as common as job loss, and natural disasters to as horrible as economic collapse and nuclear war in the world around them.

Personally, the owners of Prepper Outfitters LLC, prep for economic reasons, having food put back in long term food storage is simply our hedge against rising food prices. We also take basic measures to ensure our survival in the cases of natural disasters, and civil unrest.

Where can I learn more about Prepping?

There are multiple sources for prepping information, we put out information via our Store's Blog and Nate's YouTube channel, we also have a Links page that will provide links out to other resources.

What are Mylar bags used for?

Mylar bags are used for long term food storage. Mylar bags are often silver in color because there is a thin layer of foil sandwiched between the two layers of plastic, the foil layer does not make a bag a "Mylar" bag, rather the "Mylar" is the plastic on each side of the foil.

What is a quality Mylar bag?

Prepper Outfitters LLC, defines a quality heavy duty, Mylar bag, as any Mylar bag that is over 5mils thick. There are many retailers of Mylar bags popping up on the internet as of late claiming they have the highest quality Mylar bags, but if you look closely you will find that their bags are anywhere from 3.4mils think to 4.5mils thick. These sub-quality Mylar bags are often marketed as being better then their competitors, but are rarely a true high quality bag.

Long Term Food Storage in Mylar Bags

Food stored in a low oxygen to zero oxygen environment, like food stored in Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers can last up to and beyond 30 years while still retaining most of its quality BYUniversity has studied and proven this in great detail.

What is Process for storing food in Mylar bags?

Here is a quick overview:

Buy the dry food that you will store (rice, beans, wheat, corn, sugar, flour)
Buy the Mylar Bags & Oxygen Absorbers.
Acquire the buckets you will be storing your food in.
Get your iron ready (a regular clothes iron on high heat will work).
Put your food in the buckets.
Once all your buckets are full, open the oxygen absorber bag.
Once the sealed bag of Oxygen Absorbers are open, you will need to work quickly, placing the absorbers in the Mylar bags.
Force the extra air out of the bags, and seal the bag.
Seal the bags with your iron.
Place the lids on the buckets, and store in a cool dry place.

To place an order with Prepper Outfitters, add an item found in one of the categories or from our general catalog. Once you have added all the products to your car that you wish to buy, you can click the checkout link in the top right hand corner of the page. The website will have you create a profile, and enter shipping and contact information. Once this has been completed you will be passed over to a Paypal page where you can pay with your Paypal account, or checkout using a credit card on the Paypal Site. A confirmation email will then be sent to you and your order will be filled and shipped the following day (except Sundays).
